San Marino is a picturesque, tiny republic surrounded by Italy. It’s completely independent, just like the big-boy countries, which I had trouble explaining to some people (But what country is it in? San Marino. In Italy? No, in San Marino. Huh. Is that in Italy? Sigh.)
To be honest, if you aren’t really paying attention, you would simply think you were in Italy. The food is similar and the language is like another Italian dialect. What makes this city stand apart is its vertical reach and towers that stand guard like centuries-old soldiers.
And its unbelievable sunsets.
